Harmonic Surveys

Harmonics on your network can cause many unwanted effects. These include overheating of transformers, spurious tripping of protective devices, and disturbance to sensitive electronic equipment.

Consequently, you may suffer production down time, faulty production runs, or repeated component failures and replacement.

Furthermore, any requests you make for a new supply or an increase to an existing supply must be made to the Distribution Network Operator (DNO). Subsequently, the DNO may request evidence from you that the newly applied loads will not result in the harmonic limits being exceeded. Therefore, you may be asked to demonstrate that appropriate measures are in place to mitigate the effects of the new loads. In the most extreme cases, the DNO might even refuse your request.

We can use our state of the art monitoring equipment to help you. Firstly, we will record the harmonic content of your electrical network over a period of time. Next, we will produce a detailed report on our findings. Subsequently, this can be presented to your preferred Harmonic Filter manufacturer. They will be able to advise you on suitable mitigation equipment .

The report we produce meets the requirements of ENA Engineering Recommendation G5/4.

Newsflash – We also offer surveys and reports meeting the requirements of ENA Engineering Recommendation G5/5, implemented on 17th June, 2020.
